I’ve been thinking about personal branding as something bigger than just sharing posts or tweaking your LinkedIn bio.
It’s more like crafting your own lore—the stories and moments that show people who you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re headed.
Here’s the fun part: everyone’s story is different. No cookie-cutter templates or one-size-fits-all advice. That’s where archetypes come in. I’ve been playing with this idea of using archetypes to stretch the concept of personal branding so it works for everyone, no matter what stage you’re at.
Here’s a quick rundown of the six archetypes I’ve been working on. Let’s see if you recognize yourself in one of them:
The Climber: Crushing it in your current role and always reaching for the next level. Your story is all about growth and leveling up.
The Seeker: Job hunting? Perfecting your applications and putting your best foot forward? Your story is one of potential and showing up for new opportunities.
The Pivot: Making a career change? Your story connects where you’ve been to where you’re headed—like a big plot twist but with a clear vision.
The Learner: Deep in the books (or online courses)? Your story is all about growth, curiosity, and gearing up for the next phase.
The Dreamer: Starting fresh and figuring things out? Your story is wide open—a mix of curiosity, experimentation, and what’s possible.
The Builder: Building a personal brand, side hustle, or your own business? Your story shows the value you’re creating and the impact you want to have.
Thinking of personal branding as a story arc makes it less about “selling yourself” and more about reflecting your journey in a way that feels real to you. Identifying your archetype is a great place to start—it helps you figure out what kind of story you want to tell (and live out).
👉 Quick exercise: Which archetype feels the most you right now? Which one are you leaning toward? Jot it down—it’s a great starting point to build your own lore and plan your next moves.
